In an era where uninterrupted power supply and efficient room environment management are vital for organisations, Comtec has emerged as a trailblazer in addressing these critical needs. Over the past few years, Comtec has recognised and responded to the concerns of clients with large UPS estates.
One of the primary concerns our clients have brought to our attention in recent years is the monitoring of their UPS estate equipment and room environments.
With lockdowns and the introduction of hybrid working, clients have struggled to conduct regular checks on their room environments and UPS infrastructure. Consequently, they’ve encountered more failures more regularly and lacked the capability to remotely oversee all UPS units across their estates without interrogating each unit individually.
Another issue we’ve observed is that clients often lack a comprehensive understanding of their estate infrastructure, as UPS systems are dispersed throughout their estates with no connectivity or means to assess their health, age, status, or the need for consumable replacements.
In response to these challenges, Comtec has introduced an audit service tailored to clients with large UPS estates. This service encompasses the collection of exhaustive data on existing UPS infrastructure and room environments. It includes physical surveys and comprehensive reports on factors such as equipment age, health, runtime, thermal imaging, network connectivity, battery health, room temperature, security, and any supplementary monitoring deemed beneficial for each specific room.
Subsequently, each report is forwarded to the client, accompanied by recommendations for upgrades, clean bills of health, or a timeline for upgrades aligned with industry standards. We’ve also recommended environmental monitoring for all rooms, involving either full environment monitoring or specific parameters, such as temperature and humidity.
To further enhance this service, Comtec has implemented Schneider Electric’s Ecostruxure on our client’s premises as a centralised monitoring system. This system covers all alerts related to room environment and CCTV to UPS alerting and central firmware updates. As a result, these clients now have complete visibility over their entire UPS infrastructure and communications room environments with comprehensive alerting capabilities.
In addition, Comtec has established a connection to our clients’ Ecostruxure portals with read-only access. This connection enables us to receive all alerts and provide guidance to our clients on the urgency of necessary fixes and to plan engineering. In certain instances, our clients have become entirely reliant on our outsourced service, thanks to the maintenance service level agreements (SLAs) attached to fixes and upgrades.
This comprehensive service has empowered our clients to refocus their attention on other IT projects, leaving power protection and room environments in the capable hands of our outsourced service.
